Tales from the River – Rudesheim, Germany, Oct 2, 2011

Cable cars seem to be an easy way to cross the river!

The fog rolled in for a few hours. No more views from our cabin.

Villages were built between the river and the hills … and then up the hills!

Just a wonderful little village along the river.

Weekend campers were all along the river. See how rapidly the river flows!

Ed went to top deck for better views.

Another village. I love the road on the left with vineyards in between.

How did they build these castles on the side of these steep hills?

More vineyards.

Instead of waiting for the gondola, we decided upon drinks instead. Rudesheim Coffee and Riesling are a local favorites.

Drinks, people-watching, and entertainment … what more can you ask on a Sunday afternoon in Germany!

He just had to try the sauerkraut and sausage.

Our ship in the background. I just loved the bark on these trees!

Almost back on the ship. Yeah!!! We were beat!

  1. What GREAT pictures. How BEAUTIFUL!! I would love to go in the castle on the steep hill – what a view.

  2. You are so lucky to be making this trip in good weather. I did parts of the trip on a Christmas Markets voyage and boy was it cold. No way were we able to even stand on deck and look at the scenery. Am enjoying the pictures, etc.

  3. This good weather is unusual right now. Whereas I brought mostly sweathers and earmuffs, we have needed shortsleeves and sandals. It looks like the weather may be changing, which is good since I am quickly runnig out of cool shirts to wear.
